GENERAL INFORMATION
The
Greek Society for Music Education (G.S.M.E.) is a non-profit
scientific society, whose primary goal is the cultivation
of music education for people of any age in Greece, the enhancement
of the role of music in education and the advance of music
education as a distinct scientific field. Towards the fulfillment
of this goal, G.S.M.E. organizes seminars, symposiums, and
conferences and collaborates with akin European and international
societies. G.S.M.E. is a national affiliate and representative
of the International Society for Music Education (I.S.M.E.)
in Greece.
Aims
- Areas of Endeavor
The
main purpose of the society is to promote music education
of people of all ages in Greece, to upgrade the role of music
in people's general education, and to develop music education
as a scientific field. In order to realize this purpose the
society shall:
1)
Organize scientific researches concerning the place of music
in social life, in mass media, and especially in education.
These researches will be held by commissions and research
groups.
2) Organize conferences, lectures, seminars, congresses, and
performances.
3) Issue publications as well as translated articles in order
to enrich the Greek bibliography on music education and facilitate
Greek music educators in their attempt to access relevant
international bibliography.
4) Collaborate and exchange data with universities, music
pedagogical foundations, social unions, government authorities,
agencies of the public sector, and especially with international
societies that work towards the same goal not only in Europe
but also in other countries around the globe.
5) Provide information about scientific data that stem from
scientific researches and announcements from European Union
institutions as well as other international organizations.
A pertinent public bureau shall undertake the supply of such
information.
6) Contribute to the development of prevalent methods and
models of music teaching, so as to facilitate international
cooperation on relevant matters.
